Hero House is here!

The brick-and-mortar store is finally a reality.

Please allow me to tell you what the Hero House is all about. What we’re hoping to do is provide a venue that can act as central point for all things “geek culture.” We want a place that can promote comics as a diverse art form. It’s a comic store by fans for fans--an outlet for budding creators who need a place to display their creations and network with other artists and writers.

The Hero House offers transparency in how we buy and how we price. We have a menu board with list of books we’re currently paying cash for, along with what percentage of Overstreet we’re offering.

The Hero House is actively seeking to trade. We are interested in back issues, bulk books for our 25 cent boxes (we have thousands of comics at a quarter each), used DVDs , video games and movies. We are motivated to trade and make deals on the spot.

If you have a hard-to-find back issue, we’re happy to try to find it through our extensive Great Lakes region network of dealers. We’re committed to grading accurately and pricing fairly.

Our aim is to stock the largest supply of anime- and manga-related merchandise in the Indianapolis. Dealing with international imports can be confusing and cumbersome at best, and that’s why you see the same variety of products at most national chain stores. At Hero House, we deal with the several importers and wholesalers from around the globe, which allows us to bring you rare and hard-to-find imports. Whether it's Hello Kitty cigarette lighters or Death Note bento boxes, it's our priority to bring you the odd and obscure at competitive prices.

Indianapolis boasts many budding comic creators. Hero House partners Wayne Bertsch and Mike Rittenhouse are both charter members of the Indy Web Comics group. They’ve dabbled in the world of comic creation both at the pro and amateur levels for a combined 30 years. You can get their books, along with other local and regional cartoonists books and 'zines along with a line of supplies for creating your own comics.
We encourage anyone interested in creating comics to check out all the creators that are part of the Indy Web Comics group at meetup.com.

The Hero House wants to be part of creating a community based in comic fandom. We understand that many people reading this site might be perfectly happy with their current comic store, and we applaud any comic fan that supports the hobby through a local brick-and-mortar retail store. We also know that half the fun of being a comic fan is the “thrill of the hunt,” the joy of finding that unexpected gem in another store's back issue bins. Whether your looking for a sold-out title or a Silver Age gem, we want to be the store you turn to complete your personal library.
We want to bring respect and awareness of the comic art form to a larger audience. What's missing is YOU and YOUR ideas about our hobby. We welcome your participation in the Indy Web Comics group and our discussion forums. We wold also love your news, articles and interview contributions for this website. Email your ideas for submissions to Wayniac5@att.net.

We could never have opened The Hero House without the support and advice of the dozens of fans and employees of Comic Carnival and Downtown Comics. Whether it was your pointed advice, painting prowess or sweat labor hefting store fixtures--we we appreciate all the help and hard work. Thanks again to everyone.

This is not a pitch to sell you anything. This is not a reaction to other sites or forums. There are plenty of great sites and retailers out there and this website is meant to build a sense of community common to all of them. comics and geek culture is under constant assault from the world of the mundane and a society that values art and literature but views the combination of the two as "kiddie books".
We wish to act as an information clearing house pointing you towards the important stories that affect comics, games, anime as well as cool genre related movies and television.
We'll offer a forum for the exchange of opinions and ideas as well as cool original content from our contributors, columnists and bloggers. If you have a comic blog or column that you'd like to contribute or mirror on this site please contact us.
This site is a labor of love and though we will not see advertsing we will give free advertising to any retailer, convention promoter or company that we feel is supportive of the hobby and the fans.
